ANCHORED | THE NEED FOR THE GOSPEL
Lesson 3: Understanding the Cross

Dear Parents,
Hello! I wanted to remind you about the study we’re doing that focuses on helping students remain steady in the face of adversity and encourage them to grow deeper in their relationship with God. This Bible study is called Anchored: Sure and Steadfast, and this week is the third of a three-lesson unit called The Need For The Gospel. The lesson was entitled “Understanding the Cross,” and it takes a close look at how the death of Jesus was necessary to cleanse us of our sins. By looking back to the Old Testament laws for sacrifice, we get to see the incredible work that Jesus has done to permanently set us free from sin!

Lesson Overview: In previous lessons, we have talked about how our sin problem leaves us in need of a Savior. To end our unit on The Need for the Gospel, students will get to look at how the blood of Christ becomes a permanent solution to their sin in a way that the sacrifices of the Old Testament could not. Understanding that Jesus not only offers us a permanent solution to our sin problem but also an eternal audience with God is a key element to understanding our need for the Gospel.

What We Want Your Student To Learn: That when we identify ourselves with Christ, we are being raised to walk in a new life.

What We Want Your Student To Do With What They’ve Learned: Live in the freedom that comes from a new life in Christ and share this Good News with others.

Scripture Passages We Studied: Isaiah 1:18, 64:5-6, Hebrews 9:11-28, 10:11-22, Leviticus 8:30-35.

Please Take A Few Minutes This Week To Read These Passages.

Next Steps. . .
During the next week, as you engage in conversations with your student, remember that one way that will help them to understand and apply what they have learned is to explain it to someone else. Use the following questions to guide your conversation:

  • What was your Anchor Statement for this week? (Answer: The blood of Christ purifies God’s people of their sin. Through the blood of Christ, our High Priest, we can enter God’s presence for all eternity.)
  • Ask your student if they would be able to share the Gospel with a friend who is not a believer. Walk through some ways that they can start that conversation, and help them incorporate some of the things they’ve learned over the course of this unit!

Thank you for all you do. As a parent, you are the primary spiritual influence in the life of your teenager, and they desperately need you. I’m praying for you! If you have any questions or if I can help with anything, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
