What To Do?…Eyes On You! – Part II

Main Passage: 2 Chronicles 20

In this continuation of the sermon series “What To Do?…Eyes On You!”, we delve deeper into the story of Jehoshaphat from 2 Chronicles 20. The narrative unfolds with three enemy nations threatening Judah, leaving Jehoshaphat and his people feeling powerless. Despite his past victories and strategic prowess, Jehoshaphat acknowledges their limitations and turns to God, saying, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” This pivotal moment underscores the theme of dependence on God amidst overwhelming odds.

Dependence and Weakness

Pastor Kirk emphasizes that if dependence on God is the goal, then recognizing our own weakness can be a significant advantage. In a world where self-reliance is often glorified, acknowledging our need for divine intervention can be humbling yet powerful. Jehoshaphat’s story teaches us that when faced with insurmountable challenges, our first response should be to seek God, fall to our knees in prayer, and proclaim our reliance on Him.

The Power of Prayer and Praise

Prayer and praise are highlighted as powerful tools in the believer’s arsenal. When Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah prayed and praised God, they experienced divine intervention. As they sought God’s help, He assured them, “The battle is not yours, but God’s.” Pastor Kirk reminds us that prayer changes things, but so does praise. Singing and worship can confuse the enemy and bring about victory in unexpected ways.

God’s Promises and Provision

The sermon also focuses on God’s promises and provision. By recalling God’s past faithfulness and promises, believers can find strength and assurance. Jehoshaphat’s appeal to God was rooted in His promises, and as they trusted in God’s word, they witnessed a miraculous victory. The enemy was defeated without them having to fight, and they collected plunder more abundant than they could carry, illustrating that God provides beyond our expectations.

Application for Today

  • Seek God First: In every challenge, our eyes should be on God. Whether it’s personal struggles, marriage issues, or spiritual battles, turning to God should be our first step.
  • Acknowledge Weakness: Recognize that our strength lies in our dependence on God. In our weakness, His power is made perfect.
  • Prayer and Praise: Use prayer and praise as tools to invite God’s presence and power into our situations.
  • Trust in God’s Promises: Hold on to the promises found in Scripture, trusting that God will provide and deliver in His perfect timing.

Encouragement

In closing, Pastor Kirk encourages believers to embrace their journey with God, recognizing that He is faithful and will never forsake them. By keeping our eyes on Him, we can experience peace and victory, knowing that He is with us in every battle. As we continue to seek Him, study His word, and worship Him, we are assured of His provision and the peace that surpasses understanding.

This message is a call to deepen our faith, trust in God’s sovereignty, and live a life of worship and dependence on Him.
